Using Bookmarks (Anchors)
The bookmark (or anchor) tool lets a user “jump” from any word, phrase, or image to another place on the same page. On your web page, the linked text will appear as a different color, indicating that additional information is available at the bookmark’s location.
For example, if your web page includes a list of alphabetical names, a list of letters across the top could jump the user down to the first name beginning with each letter. Click the “M” to see the names beginning with “M”, and so on.
When creating a bookmark, you must specify a:
- source: the text or image that the user clicks to move to the bookmark
- bookmark: the place to which the cursor jumps when the user clicks the source
To continue with the above example, each letter of the alphabet (“M”, for instance) is the source, and the names in the “M” section are the bookmark.
