Editing Image (JPG) files
Resizing photos is highly recommended if you are uploading large, unretouched scanned or digital photos. These files typically occupy large amounts of space on the server, and are much too large for normal web use. Your website already has a recommended max height and width, and SiteOrganic can help you resize your images automatically. This will also improve your disk usage patterns.
There are two ways you can process your image files:
- Automatically, immediately after Uploading Files into the File Manager (click OK in the pop-up window to process images)
- Manually at any time, by selecting them in the File Manager and clicking the “Process Selected Images” button
Image Processing
Once you are on the Image Processing screen, you must select the image(s) you wish to process. Check the box(es) next to each image you wish to edit. You can also check the box at the top of the images list, which will automatically select all of the images.
Choices for image processing are as follows:
- Set to system width and height: This will resize the selected image(s) to the recommended size for your Website. Note that your images will be stretched or squashed to fit this size with no regard for the aspect ratio (i.e. height to width ratio).
- Scale: Automatically increase or decrease the size of the selected image(s) by the designated percentage. This option will preserve the aspect ratio of each image; they will not be stretched or squashed.
- Manual Size: You can type in the width and/or height for the selected image(s). If you specify one but not the other, then the system will preserve the aspect ratio and calculate the necessary height/width. In other words, if you specify a width, SiteOrganic will figure out the proper height so that the image doesn’t lose its aspect ratio/proportion.
- Create Thumbnails: This option will automatically create copies of each image at a predefined, smaller size. The new (copied) files will have identical filenames to the originals, but will have the phrase “_thumb” on the end. For example, the thumbnail for “traffic.jpg” would be automatically named “traffic_thumb.jpg”. The original file is not renamed; the thumbnail is a new copy.
Before you process your images, you may preview the changes by clicking the “Preview Changes” button. When you are satisfied with your settings, click the “Apply Settings to all Selected Images” button.
NOTE: these changes are irreversible, and your image files will be permanently altered on the server.
Adding images to a scrapbook (applies to certain plans)
Immediately after processing images, you will be asked whether you want to add the images to a scrapbook. Photo scrapbooks allow visitors to your website to browse through the images much like a gallery or scrapbook. If you do not want to put the images into a photo scrapbook, just click Cancel.
Otherwise:
- Select the image(s) you wish to add to a scrapbook by checking the boxes in the “Add Which Images?” list.
- Choose to either Create a new Scrapbook (you’ll need to provide a name) or Add to a Scrapbook (you’ll need to choose which one).
- Once you click Save Changes, you will be taken to the Edit Scrapbook screen.
