Creating a Hyperlink
When creating a hyperlink, you must specify:
- the source: the text or image the user clicks to move to the destination
- the destination: the Web page to which the display moves when the user clicks the source
For example, “Visit the SiteOrganic website” would be the source and “www.siteorganic.com” would be the destination.
To create a hyperlink:
- Select the source text or image (in the Page Editor area)
- Click the hyperlink manager icon in the toolbar (), and you will see this pop-up window appear:
- A page on my website: all your groups containing active pages will be listed. Choose the group where your page is located, select the desired page, and then click "Done".
- Create an anchor in this page: this option lets a user “jump” from any word, phrase, or image to another place in on the same page. See Using Anchors/Bookmarks for more information.
- A file on my website or a page on a different website: Use this option when pointing to a file on your site or a separate website. The "http://" will automatically appear in the field provided:
- If linking to a file (e.g. PDF, DOC), you will first need to copy the file path. Select the File Manager tool in your page editor, locate your file, and copy the URL from the details section on the right-hand side. You only need to copy the information after the domain name (ex: /uploads/myfile.pdf). Once you have copied the file path, close out the file manager window, and select the Hyperlink Manager tool. Choose the third option in the pop-up window (a file on my website), remove the default "http://" in the field provided, and paste in the copied file path. Then click "Done".
- If pointing to a different website, make sure to include the "http://" in the provided field, and enter the address of the destination web page. For example, to enter a hyperlink to the SiteOrganic website, enter "www.siteorganic.com". Then, click "Done".
- An email address: Simply enter the specific email address and click "Done".
Please make sure to keep this when pointing to another website. With this option, you can also choose to have the link open in a new window (option will appear at the bottom of the pop-up window). This is recommended when linking to a file or pointing to a third-party website.
Testing a Hyperlink
Once you have created your hyperlink, the linked text will change color and/or appear underlined in the page editor. To test your new link, click the Preview icon () in the page editor area. This will create a new window with your page, where you can click the link text/image.
Changing a Hyperlink
If you need to adjust where your link is pointing, you can highlight the linked text or image, right-click, and choose the "properties" option in the pop-up window. The Hyperlink Manager will appear, and you can adjust the destination page in the URL field.
Removing a Hyperlink
If you no longer want your link, highlight the linked text or image and choose the Remove Link icon
() in the toolbar. Once this icon is selected, the link will be removed.
