Adjusting an Image
Whether you are adding a new image to the body of your page (see Inserting an Image) or editing an existing one, you will use the Picture Properties dialog box to make adjustments to your image (shown below). To display the Picture Properties dialog for an existing image, right-click the image and choose the first “Properties" option.
The layout area of the Picture Properties dialog box lets you adjust a picture’s width, height, border thickness, and alignment. Once you have placed the picture into your page body, you can use the following fields to adjust the picture properties:
To make this change… |
Use this field… |
The width of the picture, in pixels | Width |
The height of the picture, in pixels | Height |
Add a border around the picture | Border Color and Width |
Add an image title | Alt Text |
Add an image description | Long Description |
Adjust the alignment of the picture | Image Alignment |
Add a white border around the picture (so the text isn't right against it) |
Margin (top, bottom, left, right) |
To add space around the picture, use the Margin fields. This will add a white border around your image, so the test isn't right against it.
Adding an Image Title
Although the title of your image won’t normally be seen by visitors, it is still a good idea to use it. The title is also referred to as the “alt” text for the image. The “alt” text appears in place of the image on the web page if the image itself cannot display for any reason. It’s also used by the visually impaired, who may be using special equipment to interpret the contents of your web page by reading it aloud. Using image titles (or “alt” tags) helps the disabled use your website more effectively. You can enter your image title into the Alt Text field of the Picture Properties box.
