Adding Video to a Featured Event - Legacy
NOTE: this feature is not available with all designs. Please check with your project manager for additional information.
Step 1: Create your media program
Remember that when you are playing a video in your features area, the site must pull all of the video information from a SiteOrganic Media program. In the Admin Console:
- Choose Files & media > Media > Group > Add a new program (NOTE: you may want to setup your featured event videos in a separate Video group so they do not appear on your media archives page).
- Complete the fields as necessary:
- Title: required
- Media Type: choose “video”
- Images: in order to display a static image behind the “play” button, load your image into the Media Player Graphic field. Make sure your image is the same dimensions as the featured events area (refer to your Image Sizes Guide for this information).
- Files: load your video file into the “audio or video file” field. NOTE: If you have the large video player available on your site, do not use the “high/large field” for video features. The file needs to be loaded into the “audio or video file” field.
- Program Date: required
Once you have saved your media program, you will be directed back to the program screen, where you will see a url next to your program. In order to incorporate your video into a featured event, please copy the message ID number from the url. It is the bolded 5-digit number in the example below:
Step 2: Create your feature announcement entry
With your video created, you're now ready to add it to the features rotator. In the Admin Console:
- Choose Site Administration > Featured Events > Group > Add a new feature
- Complete the fields as necessary:
- Text: required (this may or may not be shown on your home page, depending on your design)
- Image Path: paste in the 5-digit message ID number from your media program. (Even though this field is normally for the name of an image, you will be placing a video ID number here instead.)
- Start Date: determines when your item starts appearing on the site
- End Date: determines when your item stops appearing on the site
- Event Date: determines the rotation order of the item on the site
- URL: enter a url where the user will be directed for more information about the event (NOTE: on some designs, this URL will not be used if there is no "more info" link or button location)
- Publish: this box needs to be checked in order for your video to appear on the site
Once you have saved your featured event, your video will appear in the rotation on the site.
