    Quotes

    SiteOrganic allows you to store multiple quotes, sayings, verses, or other short text clips in the system.  These Quotes can then be displayed on various pages, on either a one-per-page basis, or on a random basis (i.e. different Quote appears each time a visitor hits the page).

    Quotes may only be managed by an Administrator.

    To enter a new quote, do the following:

    1. From the Admin Console, choose Site Administration > Quotes.
    2. Select the group that your quote belongs to.  Often, you'll store all of your quotes under the Master Group.  However, you may wish to have a special set of Quotes that only apply to one of your groups.  By storing your Quotes in different group areas, you'll allow your site workers to choose a more narrowly-defined set of Quotes to rotate in random locations on their pages.
    3. From the Quotes screen, click the "Add a New Quote" button (bottom of the screen) to create a new Quote or click the "Edit" link next to an existing Quote to make changes.
    4. Complete the fields as necessary:
      • Image:  If your Website is designed to show images with each quote, then you can specify an image (usually a JPG) to accompany this quote.  You may either type in the address to the file, or click the "Choose" link to pick the file with the File Manager.  NOTE: most SiteOrganic sites have a prescribed/recommended size for quote images.  Consult your style guide or designer for details.
      • Description:  Enter the text of your quote here.  NOTE: This field will only accept plain text.  HTML is not allowed here.  
      • Attributed to:  Enter the name of the person who supplied the Quote here.  In some cases, you may use this field for a verse reference, speaker name, author, or book/song title.
    5. Click the "Save" button to store your changes.

     

    Using Quotes on a Page

    In order to display a Quote on a page, you must be using a Page Template that supports the use of quotes.  If you have a question about which templates on your site allow for Quotes (or whether your site was designed to accommodate them at all), please consult your SiteOrganic Project Manager.

    From the Page Editor, choose one of the following from the "Quote" drop-down list:

    • Random Quotes from Your Organization:  This page should display a random (different) Quote each time a visitor hits the page.  Any Quote from the entire Organization can be shown.
    • Random Quotes from Just this Group:  This page should display a random (different) Quote each time a visitor hits the page.  Only Quotes from this group will be shown.
    • (Specific Quote):  This page should always display a single (same) Quote whenever someone visits.
