Add/Edit Volunteer Opportunities
The Volunteer Opportunities engine allows you to advertise one-time or ongoing opportunities for people to serve others. Each opportunity can be available between certain dates, and can have detailed description info and/or links. Additionally, your visitors may browse all available opportunities on your Website or they may search by a variety of criteria.
You may add or edit volunteer opportunities that belong to your group(s).
To add/edit opportunities:
- From the Admin Console, choose Events & Store > Volunteer. Choose the group that owns/sponsors the opportunities you wish to add.
- Click the "Manage Opportunities" link.
- You will see a list (if applicable) of existing opportunities in your group. You may click one to edit, or click the "Add New" button to create a new opportunity. NOTE: You will also see a second list below, labeled "All Other Groups". This is a full list, for your reference, of all of the opportunities added to your Website. You may click any one of these to view a read-only description of that opportunity. The only ones you may edit, however, are in the upper portion of the screen (underneath your group name).
- Complete the following fields, as needed:
- Title: Name of the opportunity (this will appear as the title, as well as the entry in all search results
- Location: All fields are required. This should be the address where people will actually serve. This address will be used to compute the distance, if the user wants to search for opportunities within a certain radius from their ZIP code.
- Sponsored by: Often, you will just use your group name as the sponsor. However, you also have the option to use another existing sponsor from this list, or add a new one. See Sponsor Organizations for more information.
- Happens: If this opportunity only happens once, select "One Time". Otherwise, for an ongoing or repeating opportunity, select "Ongoing."
- Date(s): Enter date information here.
- Group Friendly: If this opportunity can accommodate more than one person, then select "Yes". You will also be able to enter the maximum number of people who can serve.
- Family Friendly: If this opportunity is appropriate for families/children, then choose "Yes".
- Keywords: Enter any and all keywords here that describe your opportunity. These keywords will not appear on the public Website, but they will be used to produce search results. Separate your keywords with commas or spaces. It is not necessary to repeat words.
- Description: Add a description of your opportunity here. This will appear on the Opportunity Description page. You may use plain text in this field, or (advanced) HTML.
- Contact Name/Phone/Email: Enter the information on who to contact for this opportunity. You must enter the name, and either phone and/or email address.
- Active on Website: Choose the dates between which you want to advertise this opportunity. If a person searches for this opportunity outside these dates, it will not appear.
- Applicable to these groups: Your own group is always chosen by default. However if this opportunity is also relevant to other groups, you may select them here. This will affect the search results when a user searches for opportunities based on group/ministry affiliation.
- Click "Save" to add/edit this opportunity.
To delete an opportunity:
- From the Admin Console, choose Events & Store > Volunteer. Choose the group that owns/sponsors the opportunities you wish to add.
- Click the "Manage Opportunities" link.
- You will see a list (if applicable) of existing opportunities in your group. Click the entry you wish to delete.
- Scroll down and click the "Delete" button.
