Audio/Video File Formats
Audio
- MP3 audio (must be 16-bit, at least 92kbps), mono is recommended for spoken-word programs
Video
- Flash video (FLV, F4V formats)
- H.264 video (MP4 format) - we recommend using the "Baseline" profile when encoding, to ensure compatibility with iPhone/iPad and future HTML5 applications. NOTE: if you create an MP4 file but it doesn't play on the site, the most common reason is that the file was encoded wrong. Not all MP4 files are created equal! Please go back and make sure you are using H.264 codec, with a "Baseline" profile.
There are several commercially-available tools to produce these files.
- We recommend Adobe Audition for audio mastering and compression.
- We recommend Adobe Premiere Pro, or Sorenson Squeeze for Flash video sizing, encoding and compression.
- Acobe Flash Encoder also does a good job of encoding and compressing FLV files from multiple input sources.
Using Other File Formats
Other audio/video formats, such as WAV, MPG, M4P, Quicktime, Windows Media, and Real Media can still be used on your site. However, users will be required to have the proper software in order to experience your media. Also, SiteOrganic does not offer streaming capabilities for these formats. If used, they will be downloaded and then played locally on your visitors' computers.
Embedding Video from Third-Party Sites
When you want to display video (or audio) content from third-party sites such as YouTube, you will need to obtain the necessary HTML code from that provider. Typically, this will be a few lines of HTML code that can be inserted into your pages on SiteOrganic. When pasting HTML code, be sure to use the Code View mode within the page editor.
UPDATE: Media Suite 2 now allows you to paste third-party video code directly into your programs. Get more information here.
